The Return of the Taliban

In August 2021, HMSC defence and security adviser Mr. Mamoun Abu Nowar participated in a high-level seminar organized by the Masarat Foundation for Research and Development, a non-profit civil society institution based in Amman, Jordan.
The event gathered counterterrorism experts, policymakers, and regional analysts to examine the evolving dynamics of the Taliban movement since its re-emergence, and assess the potential resurgence of transnational jihadist organizations, including al-Qaeda and ISIS-K. Discussions focused on the implications for regional security, the attraction of individuals to extremist movements, and the challenges facing counterterrorism frameworks in the MENA region.
